FACTS ABOUT NIGERIA.

ENTRY INFORMATION
Visas are to required for all visitors to Nigeria, with the exception of Economic Community of West Africa State (ECOWAS) nationals whose stay may not exceed three months. They are readily available from Nigerian diplomatic mission abroad. An applicant for a visa is likely to be asked to show proof of ability to maintain oneself whilst in Nigeria as well as an onward ticket.

TELEPHONES
Public Telephone Booths are available in most major towns and are card-operated. Contact the nearest Nigeria Telecommunication (NITEL) office for information about sending telexes, facsimiles, etc.

CURRENCY
The official currency is the Naira and kobo (N : K). One Naira is equivalent to100 (one hundred) kobo. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is the sole authority for issuing notes and coins. Visitors can exchange their money for the Naira in bureaux de and banks.

TRANSPORT
The most common means of transport is by road. There are goods roads but great care is required when driving, Rail transport, though slow, is also available. Domestic air services thrive and are extensive. They link major cities like Lagos, Abuja, Port-Harcourt, Calabar, Kano, Maiduguri, Sokoto, Jos, Kaduna and Enugu. On some of these routes, there are several flights a day and tickets are reasonably priced. It is, however, advisable to get to the airport early if you do not know the flight schedule.

RADIO AND TELEVISON
The Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) has a network of stations which cover the whole country. The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Also Operates A Network Of Stations Across The Counrty. Most State governments own radio and television stations. The Voice of Nigeria (VON) which operates from Lagos runs programmes essentially packaged for international listenership. There are also private radio and television stations. Broadcasts are in English, the main local languages
and pidgin English.
